Public Liability
All businesses should purchase public liability insurance, this important cover protects you, the business owner, against claims from members of the public caused by accidental damage to their property or accidental injury where you or anyone working for you is held responsible for the incident.
Types of accident that can result in claims include:
- A contractor working on a house left an electrical extension lead un-coiled in the entry hall, the customer, returning home with some groceries, tripped on the extension lead and hit her face on the plug on the end. She suffered a broken cheek bone, lacerations and extensive bruising and had to spend a number of days in hospital. It is important that everyone on site is aware of trip hazards and does their part to keep access ways clear and safe.
- A roofer repairing lead work failed to notice that the timber boards under the metal sheet had begun to burn, the resulting fire caused extensive damage to the building and it’s contents.
- A painter placed a tin of paint on a sideboard that was covered by a dust sheet, the sheet was moved causing the paint to topple over and stain the carpet and curtains. A specialist cleaner removed the paint, the cleaning bill was hundreds of pounds.
If your business is held to be responsible for an accident, can you afford to pay?
Accidents can and do happen, and public liability cover can protect your wealth from the financial losses involved.

Employers Liability
Employers liability protects your business against claims caused by accidents involving people who work for you.
As an employer you are responsible for the health and safety of everyone working on your job sites.
This cover is optional, but the law requires every business (with a very few exceptions) that employs people to purchase at least £5,000,000 of employers liability cover, but policies typically provide a standard £10,000,000 cover.
Do you have to buy it? If you have any of the following:
- Full or Part Time Employees
- Casual Labourers
- Temporary and Contract Workers
- Volunteers (e.g. community or charity projects)
- Clerical and Administrative Staff
The answer is: YES – You have to buy it and display a valid certificate at every place of work and site.
It you need it, but do not purchase it, then in addition to the possibility of financial losses resulting from a claim, you face prosecution under the Health and Safety laws and will certainly be fined and have a criminal record to show for it.
Don’t take the risk, protect yourself and stay on the right side of the law.

Tools Cover
This optional cover protects you against loss, damage or theft of portable tools belonging to you or your employees.
Many workers are more efficient and efective when using their own personal tools and many trades have specialist tools unique to the jobs that they do.
Lost and damaged tools can rapidly result in lost time and lost work, damaging your business and your ability to earn a living.
Add this cover for additional peace of mind.
